Strategy Is A Daily Meal

A daily dose of (aligning to) strategy is nourishment that is critical to the health and vigor of your organization.

When this concept emerged in a recent team conversation, it was a lightbulb moment. "Yes, of course! Strategy is a daily meal!"

Peter Drucker famously said, “Culture eats strategy for breakfast.” His point was clear: without a strong company culture, strategy is meaningless. And he’s right. But let’s flip that analogy—because, in truth, we should ALL eat strategy for breakfast.

Here’s why:

Leaders often think of strategy as a fixed plan designed to achieve an overarching goal. On the company level, we meet quarterly to review progress and set priorities for the months ahead. At the department or team level, we might gather more frequently—weekly standups, for example—but rarely is strategy treated as a daily staple.

This is the problem. Strategy is not a fixed plan.

Strategy is direction and focus.
Toward a common goal.
That is continuous and iterative.

To perform at our best—to stay aligned, engaged, and energized—we need to continually nourish that sense of direction and focus.

Now, back to the analogy: “Strategy is a daily meal.”

Your body needs fuel every day. Eating breakfast on Monday doesn’t mean you won’t need it again on Tuesday. Daily sustenance is essential. It recharges you and provides the reserves you need to tackle the challenges ahead.

Strategy works the same way. Re-engaging with your “why” on a daily basis, even for a few moments, provides clarity and focus. This clarity is the fuel that propels you and your team toward a common goal.

Strategy is a daily meal. The health, energy, and momentum of your organization depend on consuming it daily. It’s not a quarterly activity or a meeting agenda item; it’s a continuous source of sustenance that keeps everyone aligned, focused, and ready to move forward.
